Single Mom Kitchen Remodel

So my sister decided that her birthday gift to herself would be to remodel her kitchen. When she told me about it I thought it was a great idea, but she was nervous. She was used to remodeling but this time it was different. Back then we were both married and my then x husband was the contractor who helped her create the kitchen of her dreams. She didn't think that she would be successful at doing it again especially now that we are starting over in a new state as single moms.

Of course I convinced her other wise and after many trips to home depot and Lowes looking at kitchen showrooms my convincing worked!! So we are going to collaboratively put our heads together and design a beautiful kichen...Yeah!! The plan to keep the price low is to reface the cabinets, get new countertops and new appliances whole sale. The first challenge was to find a good deal on a stainless steele fridge and stove. Mission accomplished. Here are the new appliances installed. Aren't they beautiful!!

The next task was to install granite countertops. The installer convinced my sister that the new trend is to have one level for the bar area. If you see in the before picture the bar top was higher.

Now it is one seamless large area with an even larger preparation space.

Now we are faced with the challenge of finding cabinets. We have never looked at reface cabinets before. The last kitchen had semi custom cabinets. So far in our search the selection seems limited. Can't decide between brown or white.

I think its easier to find white because the brown my sister wants is going to be hard to find. She wants a dark cabinet with a glaze. That's hard to find so we are still searching.

In the meantime everything else is falling into place. For the backsplash the new trend is subway tile and Lowes had a crazy sale on tiles that match the granite perfectly. The idea is to keep it simple and for over the stove have a decorative frame out mosaic tile design.

Well this is what we have so far. Still a work in progress and still lots to do. Hopefully the next post will be with the new cabinets. Chocolate brown or white? What do you think it will be? Until next post. :)

A Birthday Celebration for my beautiful Sis

This year we celebrated a milestone birthday for my beautiful sister. I can't tell you what milestone because she'll kill me.

It was a sophisticated sit down dinner at home with our large family.

As a family everyone collaborated to make it a success. Creativity runs deep in our family. My niece created the beautiful chocolate cake. She's 16!! Color scheme included green, gold and burlap. I'm calling it sophisticated rustic.

I decorated a chair for the guest of honor and we enjoyed a delicious birthday dinner.

After dinner it was time to sing happy birthday, blow out the candles and enjoy some delicious cake.

A toast to immortalize the occasion!!

We reminisced over the years. Mom and Dad would be proud to see us all together like this. I know they are looking down on us from heaven smiling!!!

Here's all of us!! We've come a long way as a family.

Hope you enjoyed taking glimpse into our lives!!

Peace & Love :)

A Barbie Celebration

For our first post we wanted to share with you a traditional my sister and I have done for years. We grew up in a big family with a mom who always had family functions. She loved to entertain family and friends. So I guess you can say we naturally transitioned into having a love for entertaining. When we had kids we couldn't wait until their birthdays because we take entertaining to a new level with our creativity. Each year we would brain storm on a fabulous theme party. This is our first event we have done together in a long time since our divorces and also after relocating to North Carolina. It was for my daughter Elise who turned six. The theme was Barbie and lets just say I've been waiting for the day to throw my daughter a Barbie party. My inspiration was the Barbie silhouette logo and the colors pink and black. Here are some pictures of the party below.

The main colors were pink and black. I came up with the idea to design a feature wall with fashion images of Barbie. My sister, Carol designed the custom framed banner by cutting out the Barbie logo against a pink backdrop.

The gift bags were designed with the silhouette logo.

Here is the feature sweets table.

Big sister designed and made the cake. The inside of the cake had zebra stripes and believe me it tasted as good as it looked.

A sample of some of the party favors.

Here is the guest of honor taking pictures with some of her guests.

We also had a fashion show which was our version of project runway. Each guest sketched a design and showed it off on the runway.

Time to blow out the candles and eat this yummy cake my sister Carol designed.

Here I am with my sweetie sneaking a pic and enjoying the moment and happy to hear her say ...This is the best party ever!!!

Hope you guys enjoyed taking a peek inside our lives and our loves....
 Until next post. ;)

Welcome

It all started with a dream of happily ever after. An image of what two sisters thought their life should be.Do well in school, get married, have children and live happily ever after. Life has a funny way of turning your perception of how things should be upside down. Just when you think you have it all figured out you realize that you still have a lot to learn.

This blog is about a journey. A journey of two sisters a decade apart but on the same path of self discovery. Two sisters that have experienced the 2 D's(death and divorce) within the same time span but determined to not be defeated and to come out stronger, victorious and Fabulous!

We would like to invite you to join us on our journey in life part 2. Where we can start over and share our passion for creativity and our love for interior, fashion and event design all while raising our children whose ages range from pre-k, kindergarten, middle school and high school.

Our lifestyle blog is truly a documentation of our Life in Style.

We hope you enjoy our musings and our love of creating beauty in everything we see and combining it with our love of family.
